Someone killed the Don’s right hand man. He wants answers…

Backstory

Your guests will play the roles of one of the crooks, killers, mobsters, or gang-members employed by Don Carrasino, a notorious (and notoriously ruthless) mafioso. All of you are regulars at The Joint, Don Carrasino’s personal bar.

Murder!

The eight of you, along with the Don himself and his consigliere (or right-hand man), Danny “Chuckles” Luciano, were enjoying drinks, cards, and conversation at The Joint. The evening was shaping up to be quite festive when suddenly Chuckles stiffened in his seat, made a choked gurgling noise, and fell over dead at the bar, clutching at his throat.

Solving the Mystery

Now it’s up to all of you to figure out what happened to the Don’s right-hand man! Your guests will need to work together and use the game’s clues to determine who killed Danny “Chuckles” Luciano!

I recently hosted this murder mystery for our virtual office holiday party. We had approximately 30 people participate (8 teams of 2-4 people), each playing from their own homes in different provinces and time zones.

Each team met in a virtual breakout room at the beginning to familiarize themselves with their character and select a spokesperson for their team and they met in the breakout room again at the end to decide as a team who they thought the murderer was and why before sharing their answer with the big group.

It was a great way to connect people in a fun way, who work together but have never met in person before, so they also had a chance to get to know each other a little better.

The game was very easy to download and easy for participants to follow. It is set up very well so the host can choose to play along and not know who did it, if they want.

Headline : Fun team bonding - couldn't stop smiling

Menu Highlights : We dressed up or changed our backgrounds for the event.

This was an event that came up after a team survey revealed that a murder mystery was top of our list as things to do for bonding. It was so much fun and definitely a team must do – especially in our virtual world today.

Students of the Book Club wanted to participate in this because we read a mystery/thriller novel as a group and wanted to try something different as an activity. We did this over Zoom, which worked out fine, but I’m sure it would have been better in the classroom because we could have used props and decorated. Some members of the Book Club and I (instructor) played the characters of “Don Carrasino and the Murdered Mobster”, while other members of the club were the investigative team, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Students liked dressing up and playing the characters. The investigators had some good questions for the suspects, and the characters were able to answer and play off of each other, so the game is a great way to get students to ask questions and interact with one another. However, there was some confusion about how the script was read for the characters, but it was clarified once we got to the middle of the second part. I would have liked to see more incriminating clues and perhaps more scripted dialogue, but it was okay because it was a total mystery!

Headline : Shriners solve murder of Chuckles Luciano

    Nickname : Shriners Party

This was a Shriners virtual social event. There were 25 people that attended. 8 were characters and the rest were investigators. The characters all did a wonderful acting job playing their parts. There was a lot of banter and laughter during the rounds and everyone had great fun. The only advice would be to provide more coaching to the investigators on what questions to ask.

Headline : Unique virtual work happy hour event!

This was a very unique and fun virtual team building event. Much more fun than the typical virtual happy hours. No Zoom fatigue! The whole team got into the fun and participated with costumes, backgrounds, etc.

    Headline : Book Club Party!

The Murder Mystery kit had everything we needed for our book club to do the party. All our bookclub members dressed as characters they were assigned. Great doing online as you only have to dress from the shoulders up! Great for those guests who don’t like dress up!

Instructions and character sheets easy to email out beforehand. I recommend that one person just run the game to keep everyone organized. It’s hard to play character and keep track of peoples turns to reveal info. Also because it’s online it’s harder to hide who the murderer. When I have done this in person everything was in hidden envelopes. Easy to plan and do. Takes about 45-50 minutes. Highly recommend for isolation or do for family or friends out of town.

To us, wasn’t worth the money. Not enough clues to figure it out.
